The story of Claremont Rambling Club

Claremont Rambling Club was founded in May 1983 by likeminded people in East Kilbride who enjoyed the pleasure of the countryside with the added benefit of walking in the amicable company of others.

It was the first such club in East Kilbride and has just celebrated 40 successful years.  CRC walk every second Sunday throughout the year, hail, rain or shine.  Our outings, depending on the terrain, are divided into two walks; a long and a short walk. In mile length this equates to 8 - 12 miles for the long walk and 6 - 8 miles for the alternative walk. The walk destinations are numerous and various covering central Scotland and the Borders.

All walks are reconnoitered for safety and suitability of those taking part. Each walk has a leader and a backmarker with all other walkers keeping between them. Boots plus a waterproof jacket and trousers are recommended equipment.  Sufficient food and drinks for consumption during the day require to be considered by each walker for their own individual needs. A coffee stop in the morning and a 'social hour' at the end of the walk is 'reconnoitered' into the day's plans. A dry bag, i.e.a change of clothing/shoes for after a walk should be considered.

The Club is affiliated to the Ramblers Association and has recently received Lottery funding which will help to support the club for many years to come.

Although we use Claremont Parish Church Hall for meetings we have no ties with the church.  The club name came from the original meeting place of the club which was in Claremont High School, now known as Calderglen High School.
