Wanlockhead

This time we headed south to Wanlockhead, Scotland’s highest village situated just outside South Lanarkshire in Dumfries and Galloway.

The majority of walkers opted for a fairly challenging 11 miles circular walk following the Southern Upland Way. The route undulated through the Lowther Hills on gravel forest roads with some uphill stretches made worthwhile by fabulous views.

Those wanting to avoid too many hills or stiles enjoyed a 6 mile walk beside the Wanlock Water.

Before the walks, there was a morning breakfast/coffee stop at the café of Wanlockhead’s Lead Mining Museum and afterwards a social hour was enjoyed in the Wanlockhead Inn, needless to say the highest pub in Scotland.
