Weekend away: Portpatrick

Every year in the spring we go on a weekend away and this year we headed south-west to the picturesque coastal village of Portpatrick.

The Saturday felt almost like summer in the constant sunshine as members and visitors took their choice of a longer or a shorter walk. The longer one was a fairly challenging 10 miles from New Luce to Castle Kennedy, while the shorter one was a much easier 5 miles around lochs and through forests and the Castle Kennedy Gardens.  Then on the Sunday everyone walked together through varied scenery around Newton Stewart.  The weather was cloudier that day but almost dry.

The whole weekend featured beautiful scenery, spring flowers, birdsong, lambs, pheasants and of course the Belted Galloway hairy coos the area is noted for.
